Child Care Provider

Program Description

This is a 16-week Partnership Training program to prepare individuals for certification and employment as a childcare provider. The program includes classroom and on-the-job training and is taught by an instructor from the Community College of Baltimore County.

Training curriculum topics include:

  • Growth and development of children
  • Activities for young children
  • Communication skills for child care
  • Group care of infants and toddlers
  • Childcare of the school age child
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Community-based internship

Program Requirements

  • 18 years of age
  • 6th grade reading comprehension level and basic math skills
  • HS Diploma or GED preferred
  • Ability to lift and move children up to 30 pounds or more
  • Ability to see details at close range
  • Ability to hear and give verbal instructions in person under noisy conditions
  • Ability to change from one task to another
  • Complete a background check and health clearance

Employment Outlook

Employment opportunities for Childcare Providers are expected to decline by 2% by 2032. The average hourly wage in Maryland is $16.33​​.

Uniform Requirements

Please list uniforms on the student’s plan. Estimated cost for Child Care Training uniforms is $250. WTC staff will order uniforms.

Sign Language Interpreting

Please include Communication Services on the student’s plan. Estimated cost for sign language interpreting for Deaf consumers is $65,129. WTC staff will arrange t​his service.

Transportation

Please include Transportation on the student’s plan. Estimated cost for transportation to internships is $900. WTC staff will arrange this service.
