Program Description
This course has three training options based on the student’s abilities and interests:

Housekeeping – 12-week program
-
Floor Technician – 12-week program
-
Housekeeping + Floor Technician – 16-week program
Duties may include:
- Floor stripping and waxing
- Collecting trash
- Office cleaning
- Carpet cleaning
- Upholstery cleaning
- Cleaning windows, bathrooms, and replenishing supplies
- Doing routine maintenance
Program Requirements
Housekeeping and Floor Technician Admission Criteria:
Students must be able to:
- Stand, stoop, bend and stretch for a long time.
- Do the same job many times.
- Work alone or with a group.
- Measure and mix cleaners.
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Follow spoken and written directions.
- Have strong grip strength (Floor Tech).
Housekeeping Exit Criteria:
The student will demonstrate completion of the following tasks within the time frame identified:
- Office cleaning – within 1 hour
- Restroom cleaning – within 45 minutes
- Trash collection – within 2 hours
- Stairway cleaning – within 1 hour
- Dust mopping assigned area – within 30 minutes
Transition Criteria from Housekeeping to Floor Technician:
Students will transition to the Floor Technician program after demonstrating independent completion of the following tasks within the time frame identified:
- Complete eight weeks of the Housekeeping instruction
- Dust mop hallway – 10 minutes
- Damp mop hallway – 15 minutes
- High speed buffing hallway – 30 minutes
Floor Technician Exit Criteria:
The student will demonstrate completion of the following tasks within the time frame identified:
- Complete eight weeks of Floor Technician instruction
- Buff hallway using side to side buffer – 40 minutes
- Strip and wax room – within 4 hours
Employment Outlook
Employment in this field is expecting little or no change through the year 2032. Most people in this job earn about $16.84 per hour in Maryland.

Uniform Requirements
Please list uniforms on the student’s plan. Estimated cost for Environmental Services Uniforms is $300. WTC staff will order uniforms.
Sign Language Interpreting
Please include Communication Services on the student’s plan. Estimated cost for sign language interpreting for Deaf consumers for Housekeeping or Floor Tech is $30,240. Estimated cost for sign language interpreting for Deaf consumers for Housekeeping + Floor Tech is 40,320. WTC staff will arrange this service.
