DECEMBER 2025: DORS Frederick Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist, Hilary Broder, shared a DORS success story about a consumer who became a Physicians Associate (formerly called a Physician’s Assistant, or PA).
“I have a wonderful success story about Haley, who has successfully completed PA school and is now working in that role. Haley started with us through DORS Pre-Employment Transition Services.”
Hilary inherited the case while Haley was getting her bachelor’s degree and they continued to work together as DORS supported her with her master’s degree. In addition to carrying a full course load, Haley worked while she was going to school.
Hilary: “Haley’s journey with DORS is a powerful example of perseverance, hard work, and the impact of coordinated vocational rehabilitation employment services. DORS provided a wide range of services to help her pursue her academic and employment goals, [Haley has a mobility disability]. She is now doing a residency at the University of Pittsburg and uses a standing wheelchair so she can stand upright when she needs to examine a patient. Haley had a clear vision for her future but needed support to overcome some barriers. Her success is a testament to her dedication and commitment.”
In her own words, Haley told Hilary: “I really enjoy my job. And I really appreciate all DORS has done to support me through the years and enabled me to reach my academic and career goals! It wouldn’t have been possible without DORS help and support!”
Hilary said that she was proud to celebrate Haley’s success and honored to have been part of her journey.
Haley’s success story reflects the mission of DORS - to empower individuals with disabilities to achieve meaningful employment and independence.
