Updated: 5/2025
Adult Learning Experiences (ALE) are designed for adults who have limited or no work experience. ALE is an experience offering a broad exposure to workplace issues that will help participants connect real work experiences to future success in competitive integrated employment.
An Adult Learning Experience requires a DORS-funded paid work experience with a company to provide a work-based learning experience for the DORS consumer. (Note: "Company" in this context can refer to a for-profit business or a non-profit, charitable, or religious organization that provides unpaid work experience to a DORS participant.) It is an integral part of the consumer’s VR employment program and established IPE goal.
Intended participants: Adults who are not eligible for Pre-ETS (i.e., ALE is
not for Students with Disabilities) who have limited or no work experience. On-the-job training (OJT) is not available.
Duration of Service: A consumer may participate in no more than two experiences (maximum of 8 weeks each). The second experience must be approved at the Regional level as an exception only.
