RSM 3, Section 3200: Housekeeping at WTC/DORS Administrative Office

3201 Purpose

To establish the mission and procedures of the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) Housekeeping Department.

3202 Applicability

This policy applies to all employees of the DORS Housekeeping Department.

3203 Policy Statement

The mission of the DORS Housekeeping Department is to maintain the facilities of the Workforce & Technology Center (WTC) and DORS Administrative Office in a safe, clean and attractive manner, which supports the provision of comprehensive rehabilitation services.

3204 Procedures

  1. Housekeeping staff will use Universal Precautions when coming into contact with infectious materials.

  2. Housekeeping staff will observe all necessary safety procedures to avoid injury and prevent accidents.

  3. Floors will be swept/mopped regularly to remove debris and dirt. Germicide in warm water will be used to wash floors. Floors will be waxed as necessary.

  4. Carpets and walk-off mats will be vacuumed regularly and shampooed as needed.

  5. Restrooms will be cleaned daily using the following cleaning agents:

    1. Germicide disinfectant/detergent will be used on walls and floors.

    2. A lotion-type cleaner will be used on tile, stainless steel and porcelain (toilets, urinals and sinks).

  6. Walls will be kept clean using the Germicide mixture.

  7. Windows will be cleaned as time and conditions permit.

  8. Ceiling vents will be regularly inspected and cleaned as necessary.

  9. Other building equipment and furnishings will be cleaned regularly and as needed using the appropriate cleaning agent.

  10. Trash will be collected and deposited in the trash dumpsters daily, except on weekends and holidays.

  11. Infectious materials will be handled according to procedures in the WTC Infection Control Plan.

  12. Linen:

    1. Soiled linen will be collected from the Dormitory and physical therapy per the established schedule, counted and prepared for pick-up by the Central Laundry. It will be transported in containers labeled "Soiled Linen" to the laundry holding area. Soiled linen will not come in contact with clean linen. It will be kept separate from clean linen at all times. Soiled linen carts will remain covered at all times.

    2. Clean linen will be received from the Central Laundry and will be distributed to the Dormitory and physical therapy department. Clean linen will be transported in covered carts used for laundered linen only. It will be stored above the floor on shelving and handled by designated personnel to prevent soiling and contamination prior to use. An emergency supply will be maintained in each area.

    3. Isolation linen will not be sorted. Linen contaminated by blood or other body fluids will be transported in impervious bags.

  13. Housekeeping staff will assist staff and consumers in maintaining clean living quarters, offices and work areas by removing trash, debris and unwanted items as necessary.

  14. Housekeeping storage closets will be kept clean and neat.

3205 Responsibility

  1. The Facility Operations & Services (FOS) Branch Chief is responsible for ensuring that WTC/DORS Administrative Office is properly maintained and kept neat and clean.

  2. The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for managing the Housekeeping Department.

  3. The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for supervising the Housekeeping department and ensuring that required procedures are performed appropriately.

  4. Housekeeping staff are responsible for performing the duties listed above, using Universal Precautions as appropriate and following safety procedures.
