Assistive Technology Assessment
Program Description
Assistive Technology (AT) Assessment Services works with individuals to determine which technologies might assist them in being successful with their employment goals. The assessment is customized to the individual’s needs and can be held at WTC or in the community.
Examples of assistive technology include:
- Desktop or portable video magnifiers
- Note taking devices
- Specialized software, such as voice recognition software, computer screen readers and other products to assist with reading and writing
- Mobile devices to assist with organization and time management
Program Requirements
Any individual who is receiving services through DORS may be referred to RTS at WTC for an AT Assessment.

Assistive Technology Training & Tech Support
Program Description
Training and/or technical support is provided on assistive technology hardware and software. Training is customized to the individual’s needs and will be held at WTC or in the community. It may be individual and/or group based. Technical support can be provided for hardware and software for any DORS consumer.
Current AT Services Group Training Classes include:
JAWS Screen Reader Software (2-week course) – A two-week course designed to teach blind and visually impaired consumers the essential concepts, settings and keyboard commands of the JAWS screen reader program. Additional training may be recommended as a result of the group training to further master the skills.
Additional group classes may be developed based on individual needs and trends in technology.
Program Requirements
- Any individual who is receiving services through DORS may be referred to RTS at WTC for AT Training by their Field Counselor.
- A keyboard assessment and training may be required first. These services can be completed at WTC.
