Program Description

This 16-week course includes videos, lectures, product demonstrations, and extensive hands-on experience. Course focuses on:

  • Customer service
  • Shop safety
  • Interior and exterior cleaning techniques
  • Proper use of equipment, including mixing of solutions and orbital polisher

Targeted positions for graduates: Entry Level Detailing.

Detailing is more than washing cars. Detailers:

  • Restore headlights
  • Wash, wax and polish car exteriors
  • Clean and maintain car interiors

Program Requirements

Admission Criteria:

The individual must possess:

  • Valid driver’s license with no more than two points
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to squat, stoop, kneel, reach and bend into cars
  • Third Grade reading comprehension
  • Certain criminal backgrounds may disqualify an individual from program.

Exit Criteria:

The student will demonstrate completion of the following tasks within the time frame identified:

  • Washing vehicle – 60 minutes
  • Drying vehicle – 30 minutes
  • Cleaning four tires & wheels – 60 minutes
  • Setting up shop in the morning – 25 minutes
  • Vacuum inside of vehicle – 20 minutes
  • Windows inside and out – 30 minutes
  • Clay bar/wax vehicle – 90 minutes

Employment Outlook

Job openings in detailing are expected to grow are expected to grow by an average of 2% to 4%. The average hourly wage in Maryland is $16.42.

This eight-week course includes videos, lectures, product demonstrations, and extensive hands-on experience. Course focuses on:

  • Engine compartment detailing
  • Use of clay bar
  • Wet sanding
  • Quality Control
  • Removing minor defects and scratches
  • Compounding
  • Using a multispeed buffer

Targeted positions for graduates: Entry Level in a high-end detailing shop or dealership.

Program Requirements

Admission Criteria:

Satisfactory completion of Auto Detailing 1, a third-grade reading comprehension level, and instructor recommendation is required.

Exit Criteria:

The student will demonstrate completion of the following tasks within the time frame identified:

  • Wet sand minor scratches out of hood – 15 minutes
  • Wet sanding headlights and buff – 40 minutes
  • Clean engine compartment – 30 minutes
  • Know the different types of waxes and compounds
  • Know the different grades of sandpaper

Employment Outlook

Projected growth averages 2% to 4% between 2024 and 2032. The average hourly wage in Maryland is $16.77​.

Program Description

This 24-week course includes videos, lectures, product demonstrations, extensive hands-on experience and a practicum opportunity. Course focuses on:

  • Shop and personal safety
  • Developing a refinishing plan
  • Gaining experience using a paint booth
  • Paint mixing techniques
  • Masking and removing parts
  • Color matching and priming techniques

Targeted position for graduates is: Painter’s helper.

Painter’s helpers:

  • Analyze
  • Prepare
  • Prime
  • Refinish

Program Requirements

Admission Criteria:

An individual interested in Automotive Refinishing training must possess:

  • Satisfactory completion of Auto Detailing 1
  • Eighth-grade reading comprehension level
  • Instructor recommendation
  • Valid driver’s license with no more than two points
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to squat, stoop, kneel, and stand for hours
  • 8th grade reading comprehension level
  • Certain criminal backgrounds may disqualify an individual from this program.

Exit Criteria:

The student will demonstrate completion of the following tasks within the time frame identified and participate in an internship:

  • Mix primer and color
  • Tape and mask front door – 30 minutes
  • Tape and mask front and rear side windows – 35 minutes
  • Tape and mask rear bumper – 35 minutes
  • Sand rear bumper – 60 minutes
  • Sanding and feather edge hood – 60 minutes

Employment Outlook

Little or no change until 2032. The average hourly wage in Maryland is $23.43.
