Automotive General Service Technician 1

Program Description

The General Service Technician 1 is a 16-week course that includes extensive hands on experience, videos and lectures. The course focuses on:

  • Customer service
  • Shop safety
  • Automotive maintenance and repair
  • Proper use of equipment, including:
    • Tire balancing machine
    • Brake lathe
    • Lifts
    • Hand tools

Targeted positions for graduates: Entry Level Automotive General Service Technician.

General Service Technicians complete the following tasks:

  • 27 point inspections
  • Changing and balancing tires
  • Battery replacement
  • Tune ups
  • Flushing and replacing fluids
  • Brake inspections and repair

Program Requirements

Individuals interested in General Service Technician 1 training must possess:

  • Valid driver’s license with no more than two points
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to squat, stoop and kneel
  • 3rd Grade reading comprehension level
  • Certain criminal backgrounds may disqualify an individual from this program.

Automotive General Service Technician 2

Program Description

General Service Technician 1 students who meet the requirements may be offered an opportunity to participate in a 12-week advanced-level General Service Technician 2 program.

After 12 weeks in GST 2, students should be able to:

  • Independently study for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certificate Online
  • Diagnose brake systems
  • Perform maintenance and light repair

Program Requirements

Individuals interested in going on to the General Service Technician 2 training must have successfully completed the GST1 program and demonstrated the following:

  • Quality hands-on work
  • Comprehension of auto mechanical theory
  • 8th grade reading comprehension
