Staff Training Procedures
Staff training for the Office of Field Services, Office for Blindness & Vision Services, Workforce & Technology Center, Office of Administration & Finance and the Office of the Director is coordinated by the
DORS Staff Development Office at 410-554-9400.
DDS staff training will be coordinated through the DDS Training Office at 410-308-4587.
In-State trainings are trainings in Maryland and the District of Columbia. Trainings must be more than 50 miles from your assigned office before an overnight stay can be requested.
Process to Attend a Training, Conference, Etc.
Employee:
Fill out all information on the Staff Training Application
and digitally sign it using your Adobe digital signature (instructions
).
Note: Ensure that you are using the form in either Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader. The signature function will not work in a browser PDF viewer.
Save the form to your computer.
Send an email to your immediate Supervisor asking for approval to attend the training. Attach your completed Staff Training Application
, as well as any related brochures, flyers, etc., about the training.
Supervisor:
Review the training request and the Staff Training Application you received in email.
If
NOT approving the Application: hit "REPLY" and tell the Employee the training is not approved.
If approving the Application:
- Download the completed Application to your computer and open it in either Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader. The signature function will not work in a browser PDF viewer.
- Digitally sign the form using your Adobe digital signature (instructions
). - Save and close the Application.
- Go back to the Employee’s original email and hit FORWARD.
- Address the forwarded email to your Regional Director/Program Manager.
- Scroll down within the forwarded message, find where the Employee’s application was attached, and hit the X next to it to remove it.
- Attach the copy of the Application you just signed.
Send the email.
Regional Director/Program Manager:
If
NOT approving the Application: hit "REPLY" and tell the Supervisor and Supervisee the training is not approved.
If approving the Application:
- Download the completed Application to your computer and open it in either Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader. The signature function will not work in a browser PDF viewer.
- Digitally sign the form using your Adobe digital signature (instructions
). - Save and close the Application.
- Go back to the original email and hit FORWARD.
- Address the forwarded email to the
DORS Staff Development Office.
- Scroll down within the forwarded message, find where the Employee’s application was attached, and hit the X next to it to remove it.
- Attach the copy of the Application you just signed.
- Send the email.
Notes:
Forwarding all the e-mails demonstrates that required reviews and approvals were completed without the need for physical signatures on printed paper documents.
If steps are skipped or missed, it may delay the approval process or result in the Application not being approved.
All requests must be received
at least four weeks prior to the requested training dates. Contact the
DORS Staff Development Office if circumstances preclude registration four weeks ahead of the training program.
