Reasonable Accommodation Request

Reasonable Accommodation Request Procedure

Beginning August 1, 2022, all DORS employees requesting new reasonable accommodations for their disabilities will use the DORS Reasonable Accommodation Portal to submit their Reasonable Accommodation Request FormPDF document and relevant medical documentation.

An email address for communications relevant to reasonable accommodations has also been established (ReasonableAccommodations.dors@maryland.gov).

All communications and information provided through the portal and email address are secure, only used for the reasonable accommodation interactive process, and are kept confidential and separate from personnel files. This process has been developed to help manage all requests.

Note: This procedure applies to all NEW accommodation requests August 1, 2022 or after. If you submitted a request prior to that date or have an accommodation already in place, you do not need to resubmit using the Portal.

Supervisors:

Please remember that the reasonable accommodation interactive process is triggered as soon as you become aware that the employee may have a mental or physical impairment that limits their ability to perform any aspect of their job. If an employee indicates either verbally or in writing that they are having difficulties with their job tasks due to a medical condition or disability, please advise them to complete the Reasonable Accommodation Request FormPDF document and submit it through the Portal.

Also, if you have a brand new employee coming onboard with a known disability (example: blind) who is in need of an accommodation or who has indicated they may need a reasonable accommodation, please assist them with submitting the Request Form through the Portal prior to their start date so we can get the process underway.

DDS Employees:

DDS Employees may have difficulty using the Portal via their ssa.gov email address but they can use their personal email address if they choose to submit their Request Form and medical documents through the Portal. Otherwise, DDS employees may submit their Request Form and associated documents by attachment to the dedicated email address: ReasonableAccommodations.dors@maryland.gov.
