Maryland Disability Determination Services

Disability Determination Services (DDS) is a part of DORS that evaluates the eligibility of Marylanders who apply for Social Security disability programs and benefits:

  • Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) pays benefits to you and certain members of your family if you are "insured," meaning that you worked long enough and paid Social Security taxes.
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI) pays benefits based on financial need.

For more information about eligibility and how the disability determination process works, please call DDS at 1-800-492-4283, or visit this section of SSA.gov.
